This year the Society held our 5th major conference, the venue was the University of Essex in Colchester.

Sean Burrell presented his paper on the 1832 cholera riots that took place in Liverpool and Professor Edward Royle presented a paper on Chartism.

Of keen interest to all members was the open discussion on the direction for future research that include Pauper Emigration Project, post 1945 Urbanisation Project and the Transport Project.
