Sponsored Projects


FACHRS members engage in sponsored nationwide research at a micro level. Subjects are confirmed by the organising committee of FACHRS and are then administered by the Society's Project Coordinator. The output from the research is made available to all members on the Members Community, a section of the website accessible only to FACHRS members.

From time to time the results of the research will be offered for sale to the public by FACHRS Publications, usually in book with accompanying CD ROM.

Investigation into the diffusion of hindu-arabic numerals to replace roman in Britain, as evidenced by wills, probate inventories and other recurrent historical sources, during the period 1540 - 1700.

The Swing Project

The purpose of this project was to determine the true extent of the Swing Riots across England. This spate of agricultural rioting occurred in parts of England between the beginning of 1830 through to the spring of 1832, although the main body of the rioting occurred between the summer of 1830 and the autumn of 1832.

A  database of recorded instances of 'swing' disturbance has been created and may be accessed by all FACHRS members in the Members Community.

Assisted Poor Persons Emigration

The core project was to research assisted pauper emigration from Poor Law Unions between 1834-1871. The project closed in May 2004.
